ARIGATO!! for coming

Amazing speakers

Organizing team and helpers

Thank you very much for coming to our special event, Global Pecha Kucha Night- Inspire Japan last night.  11 speakers presented, and nearly 280 people RSVP'd, and well over 100 people came despite the heavy rain.

We raised $2,011, all of which will be donated to Architecture for Humanity.

I noticed that the Global PechaKucha Night was not happening in NYC on Monday, and I decided to organize one on Tuesday.  We put this event together from scratch in only 4 days - that's SOKOJIKARA!

I cannot thank enough all the speakers who put their amazing presentation together in a couple of days.  I cannot thank enough the organizing team members and helpers who worked so hard to make this happen.  I cannot thank enough our sponsors, TOTO USA and GSAPP Columbia University who kindly offered us space, food and drinks.

For those who missed, you can still watch the video on Ustream
(Since we had some technical difficulties, it starts from the 3rd presenter.)

I would like to continue my effort to raise awareness, remind people of this tragedy and support the long-term reconstruction of Japan.

Thank you again!!

What is Global PechaKucha Night – Inspire Japan?
Japan has inspired designers for many generations. On the March 11, Japan suffered what has been described as a 1000 year event. The earthquake and tsunami destroyed 400km of coastline, killing over 10,000 people, leaving 400,000 people homeless, and has triggered a nuclear situation that is still unfolding. Japan has inspired us all, now is it our turn to "Inspire Japan."

Please join us on April 16 and be a part of Global PechaKucha Day - Inspire Japan. Let's all come together and show Japan that the creative world is thinking of them, that all is not lost, and that it is possible to stand up and rebuild, even in villages and towns which have been completely destroyed. With creativity and passion, anything is possible.

- Astrid Klein & Mark Dytham, PechaKucha Founders - Tokyo

Support Architecture for Humanity?
Yes! Proceeds from Inspire Japan will go directly to Architecture for Humanity (AFH), who PechaKucha supported last year with Global PechaKucha for Haiti. They currently have a Team in Sendai and a design fellow in Tokyo.

What are PechaKucha Nights?
PechaKucha Nights are informal and fun gatherings where creative people get together and share their ideas, works, thoughts, holiday snaps - just about anything really, in the PechaKucha 20x20 format.

What is 20x20?
PechaKucha 20x20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images forward automatically and you talk along to the images.

I have said enough, please come join us and Inspire Japan! Please check us back!!

Architecture for Humanity NY chapter

Architecture for Humanity and its teams in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto are partnering with other organization to mobilize around the long term reconstruction effort.
At this point, we are calling out to the New York network for Japanese/ English translation assistance. If you are interested in helping, please contact Rita Saikali at to get involved.

-AIA NY "Dialogue towards new Japan" panel discussion(5/24)

AIA NY "Dialogue towards new Japan" panel discussion(5/24)
